
The papers compiled in this book were presented at the Pacific Asia Conference on Korean Studies organised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University. The Conference brought together a number of scholars and experts of Korean studies as well as persons with expertise in other disciplines. The discussion groups and panels covered a wide range of subjects such as language, literature, art history, religion, culture, economics, international relations and geography. The conference was the first one organized on this scale, with over a 100 participants, by the Centres of JNU. This volume comprises some of the papers that were presented on Korean history, religion and culture and over a wide range of period. They will be of interest to Koreanologists as also others who have an interest in Korea.
